Murti town is located on the bank of Murti River

Murti is a small picturesque town in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal and is situated on the bank of river Murti. This place is about 18 kilometres away from New Mail Junction though Chalsa, 60 km away from Jalpaiguri and 18 KM from Lataguri. Excellent scenic beauty is the main attraction of this small site. Both Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park are very close to Murti. One can get day visit pass from Murti Beat Office for Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Lataguri Interpretation Centre for Gorumara National Park. The other side of the river falls under Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary.
Due to the close vicinity of Chapramari and Gorumara many tourists visiting those forests for wildlife prefer to stay in the resorts located on the bank of Murti River. Murti River originates from Neora Valley National Park and moves through prime touristy region of Dooars before meeting Jaldhaka waterway. The watercourse hits the fields at Samsing. Within Dooars, it isolates the constant stretch of woods of Gorumara and Chapramari. Further downstream, it meets Jaldhaka River. The total span of Murti River is around 80 KM.
This tiny town depends on Tourism and Timber for its livelihood. Few are engaged in forest departments. Other than rainy season the water of Murti River is crystal clear and believe that the water will pamper you to have a sip. The Tropical rainforests along the bank of Mutri River with the hills of Bhutan at the background, is a real visual pleasure. You can walk along the sandy and stony beach of Mutri river and get lost somewhere.
The immense biodiversity and beauty of Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary attracts people all over the world. Wild boar, one horned Asian Rhino, Bison, Gaur, Leopards and elephants are main habitats of those dense forests.

How to Reach Murti:-

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, 125 KM from Murti.
Form Siliguri you can take the road through Sevok to reach Damdim and Malbazar and then to Chalsa to Reach Marti. Bolero fare: - NJP to Murti – 3500-4000/- INR, Daily reserve fare – 2500-3500/- INR depending on the season and road conditions.
You can take the following trains from Howrah to New Mal Junction Station. Murti is only 50 KM from New Mal Junction Railway Station. You can hire private vehicle to reach Murti.

There are one two buses ply between Lataguri and Siliguri and but they are very irregular. Trekker and bus service is available from Siliguri to Chalsa.
There are many choices in Murti to stay. WBFDC, Private Cottages are one of the best place to stay.

Mainly Nepalese, Chinese, Bengali food is available abundantly. You must try out the local delicacy of Nepali food and farm fresh organic vegetables. Preferably, Chicken dishes are to be ordered in advance. Taste Momos with hot chutney (sauce), curry made out of Squash or Squash plants.
This all-weather tourist spot can be visited anytime throughout the year. In monsoon landslide may occur and may block the path which may intermittently. The River course is somewhat chilly during winter as some of the higher parts of the valley receives heavy snowfall. Not recommended in monsoon due to landslides.
