Rishyap is located at Neora Valley, 10 KM from Lava, under the Kalimpong subdivision of Darjeeling district, West Bengal.

Rishyap is a tranquil, little rural settlement of the Lepcha community within the mountainous landscape at an altitude of 8,500ft. It is solely concerning 28 KM to the east of Kalimpong in Darjeeling district. If you're visiting lava, there's a motorable road of 11 KM and additionally a trekking path of 4 KM from lava to succeed in Rishyap.

Rishyap really forms an integral a part of the renowned Neora valley at the foothills of Tiffindara. Tiffindara is a view point for watching sunrise and sunset and around 1.5 KM of uphill trek from the bottom of Rishyap. You travel through the forests of birch, fir, pine and rhododendrons as you hear the chirping of the birds. It is a slender forest path and must be avoided throughout the monsoon. There are few places on the approach wherever bamboo created benches are provided where you will be able to take rest before you climb further. Satalite TV and Internet has become recent addition to Rishyap but we recommend you not to avail those services unless you are in a great need. Enjoy the gadget free life in this small village with its village savour.

How to Reach Rishyap:-

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, 125 KM from Rishyap

Form Siliguri you can take the road through Gorubathan to reach Rishyap, it is 117 KM drive through most beautiful tea gardens of doors. The alternate route to Rishyap is through Sevoke and Kalimpong is 123 KM. Bolero fare: - NJP to Rishyap – 3500-4500/- INR, New Mal Junction to Rishyap – 2400-3500/- INR. Daily reserve fare – 2500-3500/- INR depending on the season and road conditions. Jeeps hired from NJP or New Mall Jn is not allowed in Neora Vally for local sightseeing. You have a hire a separate 4 wheel drive for Neora Valley. A four wheel drive can be hired from Lava Syndicate Taxi stand.

You can take the following trains from Howrah to New Mal Junction Station. Rishyap is only 70 KM from New Mal Junction Railway Station. You can hire private vehicle to reach Rishyap.

Train Schedule

There is Siliguri to Kalimpong bus service operated by local transporters and government at regular interval. Trekker service (shared) is also available from Siliguri to Kalimpong and further from Kalimpong to Lava. You have to hire a reserved separate four wheel drive from Lava to Rishyap at a cost of 1000/- INR for one way.

Plenty of accommodation is available in Rishyap in the form of Eco Huts, Log Cabins, Homestay and Guest House. The Non A/C accommodation with hot water supply will cost you at a starting price of 1500/-. Mainly Nepalese, Chinese, Bengali food is available in the homestays. However very few food joints offer North Indian, South Indian foods too in peak tourist season. You must try out the local delicacy of Nepali food and farm fresh organic vegetables. Homestays offer four times food (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner) at a price of 500/- 600/- per person per day. Chicken dishes are to be ordered in advance. Taste Momos with hot chutney (sauce), curry made out of Squash or Squash plants.

This all-weather tourist spot can be visited anytime throughout the year but avoid monsoon as most of the places including the Neora Valley National Park will be closed due to animal breeding season. Roadblock happens due to landslide.  The valley is very chilly during winter as some of the higher parts of the valley receives heavy snowfall.

Only one nationalized bank ATM available in Lava, no ATM or banks are located in Rishyap. It is advisable to carry cash.

Light woollen in summer and heavy woollen in winter. In some places the temperature is sub-zero during winter.
